Growing Up did you travel often?
Yes. My parents always took us wherever, whenever they were able to.
I grew up in Central MT, surrounded by three mountain ranges, so they took us camping, hunting, fishing etc. Also from MT they took us to Yellowstone and Glacier National Parks often as well.
I have been as far north as Lloydminister, Alberta, Canada (about 3 hours northeast from Edmonton) and as far south as San Diego, CA.
The farthest east that I have been is Minneapolis, MN.
Why did you decide that this was the time to travel?
For financial reasons, medical bills, wanting to save to buy a home, live our dreams!!
For health reasons, I can’t work 2 full time jobs, nor should anyone. This gives me opportunity to provide for my family and still live. I didn’t want to miss out on my daughter’s early years as she is 7.
My motto is “I work to live, not live to work”.
How has it changed your perspective on life?
“Be humble and kind” “Have courage” “Smile, you never know what the other person is battling.”
I already had this perspective but I constantly tell myself these, we always need reminders.
I am lucky to work in a field that I can do this to make extra money. Others are not so lucky.
Inspirational message to other travelers:
After you have your experience in and you do decide to travel. Believe in yourself!!! It is scary for everyone. Follow your gut….always!
What made you become a nurse or health professional?
I was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at the age of 14 and my mother was a nurse.
I have always loved taking care of people and I love medicine.
The human body amazes me. Even before I had Diabetes I had thought about going into the healthcare field.
Who have you met so far on your journey that left a mark on your trip?
The facility in Fargo and in Billings I have done travel stints which have both been awesome.
They don’t make you feel as though you are lower than them because you are a traveling nurse.
They take time to get to know you. I have made friends at both facilities.
What do you like about working with your recruiter?
Bill has always been very understanding, listened when I have needed to vent and done his best to get me what I have wanted for an assignment.
He’s a pleasure to work with.
