Inspired Traveler: Christiana, RN

We believe that being a traveling health professional should be filled with inspiration, experiences, and great advice! Meet Christiana, a Registered Nurse who has an unbelievably inspirational story to tell. She’s sharing everything from how she got her start in nursing to overcoming her diagnoses of High-Risk Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia and her upcoming run in this year’s 125th Boston Marathon.

How long have you been a Registered Nurse?

4 years this October

What made you decide to travel?

I decided to start traveling because I was ready to take my young nursing career to the next level by working in the Boston, MA hospital circuit and traveling gave me that opportunity.

How long have you been working with MAS?

Three years now. 😊

What do you like about working with your recruiter?

Kevin and I’s working relationship has really become a great friendship throughout our three years together. He has always been there for me and has supported me over almost my whole nursing career. I admire Kevin for his commitment to his work and always putting his team first above all. Kevin is the person who convinced me to start traveling and to take the next step in my career. When Kevin and I were introduced I only had about 9 months nursing experience and thought I should wait until I had a year under my belt until I started traveling. Kevin and I formulated a plan that addressed all my young nursing needs and after a year together I ended up landing my dream registered nurse job in Emergency Room at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. Even though my time as a Registered Nurse is coming to an end, I believe Kevin and I will remain friends

What do you like to do in your free time?

I love traveling the world my friends and family, reading, playing tennis and golf, meeting new people, staying active by going to the gym and running, boat rides, waterskiing, going to concerts, riding my motorcycle, going to the beach, eating healthy, skiing, summering in Europe, and trying/learning new things

Where has been your favorite place to travel?

I love traveling to Budapest, Hungary to visit my family and friends. My father was born and raised in Budapest, so my sibling and I all have dual citizenship. Budapest is my favorite city in the whole world, the architecture is something out of a storybook, the cuisine is absolutely delightful, and I love being able to hang out with my friends and family there chilling by the Danube river having a cappuccino and catching up.

What is the best advice for new travelers?

Enter every contract with an open mind!

What inspires you, as a travel health professional?

I think the unknown inspires me, finding new avenues to treat patients with the least amount of toxicity to both the patient and the planet. Western medicine saved my life personally and the lives of countless others but I think that restorative medicine is the future. Our society’s medical needs are becoming more complex and we are going to have to look elsewhere to combat these issues.

Information About Christiana’s Fundraiser

This year, Christiana has decided to hit the ground running in the 125th Boston Marathon, taking place on October 11th, 2021. Astonishingly enough, on the same date, back in 1999, Christiana was first diagnosed with High-Risk Acute Lymphocytic Leukemia with only an 18% chance to survive.

The following is a message from Christiana in regards to her fundraising efforts. “My fundraising efforts will help support the new Health Care Heroes’ Intensive Care Unit at BIDMC. The ICU is being dedicated to all the frontline workers who have so fearlessly worked and guided us through this pandemic! I will also be fundraising for the Pediatric Oncology Dept. at UMASS! I will be forever grateful for all they have done for me and my family!”
